December Birthstone 6th Anniversary Stone
The mystic Turquoise seems to blend the clear blue of the sky with the green of the ocean's depths. This potent magic may explain why cultures around the world have revered Turquoise as a holy stone. Whatever its setting, Turquoise reminds us of the fragile relationship between humankind and nature.
Howlite is often dyed to imitate turquoise. Turquoise made in a laboratory has a very uniform color. Chalky varieties of turquoise are often coated with wax or oil to enhance color. Turquoise is often fracture sealed - sealed with an acrylic resin to enhance its color, texture and hardness.
Turquoise is rated "fair" for everyday wear with care. It is somewhat soft so avoid scratches and sharp blows. Avoid exposure to heat and contact with chemicals. To clean, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush and a solution of mild dish soap and warm water.
